Engine: Unreal Engine 5 (Blueprints)

Starborn Asylum is a survival horror game. While development concluded after the ten weeks, a vertical slice of the game was fully produced. The game was made to have a retro game visual style, using low poly models with a grainy postprocess effect over top.

Starborn Asylum was my first venture into game development.

During the production of Starborn Asylum, I focused on player movement abilities alongside the coding of one of the two enemy AIs that the player encounters and fights during the game known as the Leeches.

For the purpose of creating this AI, I used Unreal’s Behavior Tree to create different states that they are able to move between, making a patrol/roaming functionality as well as a combat loop tree.

This was my first game that I help to develop and while some aspects of the game were a little rough, this was a good starting point for me with learning how to develop AI enemies and player mechanics.

I also helped with the writing of the games backstory and setting, asset collection, and the creation of a custom star-scape skybox for the level.

For making the levels, free asset packs from the Epic Launcher were utilized with custom models being used for the main things that player can interact with: ammo boxes, health kits, weapons, and enemies.
